Quarantine:The Burnouts by Lex Thomas review

What the heck was that? Seriously! Just....what?
I finally finished this series today and I am so disappointed in this ending that I don't even know where to begin. They take a character I came to know and like and made him seem completely unimportant by the end of the book, while letting another who never would have actually survived on their own in this world and making them seem to be the whole reason for the series.
Those last couple sentences will only make sense to others who have read the book, but those who have completely get what I'm talking about.
Was it a memorable series? Absolutely, but with that ending I think it's definitely not going to be put on many must read lists anytime soon.
Another Divergent-esque surprise ending, yet not nearly as thoughtfully planned out.  Two babies? Really?
Wasn't this trilogy entirely based on the world building and figuring out how the characters would make it knowing everything they were familiar with had been destroyed? If so, then why didn't the authors at least give us some kind of closure to the main players? Telling me Zachary now works at a theater store in New York in two sentences does not an ending make. What about Sasha??? What about these kids who were put to death by the government???
Yet the others act like it didn't happen and go back to everyday life? Shouldn't there be a revolution against these ppl??? I just don't buy it.
If there was to be another book I may feel differently, but if this is really the last then....just....no.

  2. Agreed. Will should not have died. He brings people with the 'cure' back and thinks he's going to save people, instead he kills many of them and then gets shot himself. Its like the authors were trying to make us hate Will so that they could place David and Lucy together, since I'm guessing at the end with Lucy rejecting Will everyone would probably be rooting for Will at that point. The last sentence was in utter distaste. "The weaker one died"??!!!!!! Excuse me? How was Will the weaker one, I understand that Will has epilepsy but that shouldn't mean he needs to DIE. I liked David in the first book but always felt bad for Will because I understand what its like to have a sibling always be better then you socially, the second book really made me grow respect for Will and the third book..... made me hate Lucy. The way she though about and treated Bile I felt so bad for him, I just wanted to go into the book and give Bile a hug and tell him its not his fault. The ending was an utter mess, the title "the burnouts" was not appropriate since they literally spent 40 pages of the book with the burnouts and even then half of that was following David and Will around in there mess. Hated the second half, as soon as Lucy ran away from Bile it went down hill in my opinion. They could of saved the book by adding an extra hundred pages instead of skipping 2 months, I wanted to see David leave, find his dad, I wanted to read about where Lucy went and how sh e got there. Not have the two events summed up in the last 10 pages. The other books were nearly 400 pages each, this one was lacking that extra hundred pages. They rushed the book, or just got lazy. An utter dissapointment.

  4. in my opinion the first two books were perfect then the third came and it went straightdownhill because then they just decided to change every role, have sam getting destroyed by a hog, kill poor bile for no particular reason, cant forget that they just decided to kill everone so that way david and lucy could have there 'happyly ever after' and then the ending just decided to give will the middle finger. now heading back to the 2nd book even tho i said i loved it it still didnt make sense becaue they just decided to add a whole new gang then they turn the whole middle of the book into a episode of beach house and this is a young adlut book so i was utterly confused on why they decided to have people start banging then they make gates turn into a sycopath just to make him get killed by some red headed bitch and then they make the end into some stupid cliffhanger, so all aroun i give this series a 7/10 becaue the first book was good the second flipped the table and the third was like a stab to the fucking dick
