Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas review

I wanted to like this, I really did. I enjoyed the Court of Thorns and Roses series tremendously so I had high hopes for this, but I couldn't get past how shallow and unlikable Celaena was. I expected a book that goes through each of the "tests" in great detail a bit like The Hunger Games (even more so because the cover said the book was for fans of Game of Thrones and The Hunger Games), but instead I got descriptions that were like "trials 2 and 3 passed without any effort, but Celaena's dress was the real star with it's flowing gray beauty, shining like stars on a summer's night".....not an exact quote but you get the picture. There was more descriptiveness for what she was wearing and how she was feeling than anything about the actual trials. Don't even get me started on her diva-ness! "fetch me my slippers" "train this dog that was a gift for me because I'm too good to do it myself" blah blah blah. I've heard that the next books are much better and from seeing the summary of the second books plot it does seem that way but if this "master assassin who never assassinates anyone" is the protagonist I don't think I can handle reading them to find out. 2 out of 5 stars
